Dhi Qar Governorate Council and Iraq Integrity Authority revealed a major corruption network in Nazareth Municipality that operated as a "government within a government", where the theft of more than 20 billion dinars was thwarted and 28 arrest warrants issued.
Ahmad Salim, a member of the Integrity Committee and spokesman for the Dhi Qar Governorate Council, told the Rudao Media Network: "The case of Nazareth Municipality is one of the biggest corruption cases.
Forty thousand pieces of land and 20 billion dinars recovered
According to a spokesman for the provincial council, the issue of land distribution was the biggest gateway to corruption, with more than 40,000 parcels of land being distributed surrounded by high suspicions.
Ahmed Salim says: "Fake land numbers were used, and many outstanding sites, which had to be sold at public auction, were allocated illegally to specific people".
In response, the provincial council canceled the previous lecture on land allocation, which resulted in the restoration of nearly 20 billion dinars to the province's budget. It was also banned to change the gender of green land to residential in all its forms, and a decision was made to remove all employees and officials who circulate suspicions.
