The crowd: The 71 enclosed quarters are fake and unrelated to the body

The People's Assembly has announced that the 71 Iraq headquarters that the Ministry of Interior has declared closed, after the candidates claimed affiliation to the body, "have not been made to the People's Assembly in any way".

The Authority said in its statement on Monday (10 August 2026) that the closure and follow-up of these headquarters was carried out in a process carried out by the Directorate-General for Security and Discipline of the People's Assembly, within the framework of the work of the National Standing Committee for State Arms Containment, constituted by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

It stressed that it would continue to pursue and address cases of masquerading as a popular mob or exploiting its name, and take legal and administrative action against those involved.

Earlier today, during a press conference, the head of the Iraq Interior Ministry's Department of Relations and Media, Major General Madad Merri, announced the closure of 71 offices, which he said were fake and claimed to belong to the People's Assembly, as part of the proceedings of the National Standing Committee on State Arms Restriction.

Mary explained that the committee, which began its work in January 2023, is working in phases to be completed by 2030, noting that it has an information bank containing data on about 6 million weapons pieces around Iraq.

The closure of the headquarters comes as part of the Iraq government's efforts to restrict arms to the state, regulate arms ownership and prosecute those who use the names of institutions, security and military formations without official status.
