Mosul is restarting a textile factory and opening 650 jobs

Mosul reopened a textile factory on its western side, Monday, after completing its qualification work and equipping it with modern equipment, in a step that returns industrial production to the facility and creates more than 650 jobs, including about 300 women.

Nineveh Governor Abdul al-Qadir al-Khali said in statements to the official agency (Media) that the rehabilitation of the plant was supported by the German government through the German Development Bank, the implementation of the United Nations Development Programme, and included the rehabilitation of the main production hall and administrative facilities and equipping it with modern textile and sewing equipment.

He added that the plant is currently operating at full capacity, producing uniforms and textile products for Iraq state-owned enterprises, noting that it employs more than 650 people, including nearly 300 women working in production, quality control and management.

The entrant pointed out that the resumption of work at the plant represents an important step in the economic recovery path of Nineveh, through the re-establishment of local production, the creation of jobs and the revitalization of the industrial sector in the province.

For his part, the Qatari Director of the German Development Bank, Mark Hensel, said that his country continues to support projects that contribute to the recovery of livelihoods and the revitalization of the production sectors in Iraq, stressing that investing in these facilities helps create jobs and boost local manufacturing.

In turn, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Iraq Mehdi Khalili counted the reopening of the plant as a step beyond the qualification of an industrial facility, as it reflects the return of production capacity, job creation and the restoration of domestic manufacturing in Mosul.
