Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The President of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bakr Khalibaf, arrived on Monday, 10 August 2026, in the capital Baghdad on an official visit to hold a series of meetings with the leaders of the coordinating framework.

A source in the coordinating framework for Kurdistan 24 revealed that the talks are mainly focused on the implications of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Iraq is suffering financial losses of $150 billion as a result of this closure, which has led to what appears to be an "economic blockade" of the country.

The source added that the federal government, through the leaders of the coordination framework, is demanding Khalipaf to intervene to open the Strait of Hormuz to Iraq oil tankers to resume export operations and manage the worsening financial crisis.

The agenda of the meetings also includes a discussion of the joint security, economic and political files between Baghdad and Tehran, given the current circumstances in the region.
