Erbil (Kurdistan24) - Protests against the delay of residential projects in the capital Baghdad renewed on Tuesday, 11 August 2026; dozens of beneficiaries of the "Love 1 and 2" residential projects organised a cease-fire in front of the the National Investment Commission building to press for the delivery of their housing units.
Baghdad's "Kurdistan 24" reporter, Shafan Jabari, reported that the crisis of this complex dates back several years; housing units were scheduled to be delivered to citizens since 2019, but the ongoing delays have left about 500 families waiting so far.
The protesters explained that they had paid funds and preliminary dues to the company running 40 to 100 million Iraqi dinars per apartment, noting that the problem was not only the disastrous delay in completion, but that there were real doubts about the quality of construction and illegal changes and modifications to the engineering plan and basic design of the project.
The property of the residential love complex is owned by investor Nazar Abd al-Wahid, who is the brother of environment minister Iraqyah Sarwa Abd al-Wahid.
The protesters demanded that the investment authority, regulators and the relevant government intervene immediately, end the technical and legal violations, decide the fate of their money and savings and set a deadline for the mandatory delivery of their homes.
