In a broad governmental move, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi directed the launch of the executive procedures for a project of 1 million residential lots in the provinces that completed the land placement, with the procedures to officially begin on 1 September 2026.
The decision came during the fourth session of the Interprovincial High Coordination Body, which saw the housing, services, electricity, agriculture, water, sport, education and local administration files examined, and a series of decisions and recommendations were made.
A million pieces... from paper to execution.
The government directed the Conservatives to decide land locations, complete agricultural reform, change land gender, designs, and transfer ownership to municipalities, with priority given to land less adversely affected and closer to service sources, taking place within future urban expansions.
New, unplanned city sites, as well as land candidates for housing investment, were also offered.
The project is in the planning stages... and the real test will be to turn a million pieces of government promise into homes that actually reach citizens.
