The heat wave continues in Iraq, where temperatures in six governorates reach 50 degrees Celsius. the Meteorological Authority warned Iraqia that the "sensitive" temperature is higher than recorded due to high humidity and lack of wind.

On Tuesday (11 August 2026), the head of the weather forecasting department at the Iraqi Meteorological Authority and Seismic Monitoring, Mahmoud Abdul Latif, told Rudaw Media Network that "this heatwave will last for some time. What bothers people more is not the temperature alone, but the high humidity and the lack of wind, which makes the felt temperature much higher.

IraqI, head of the weather forecasting department, explained: "If the temperature is 50 degrees, citizens feel like it's 53 degrees because of the high humidity".

According to Mahmoud Abdul Latif, there will be no change in this wave for another week, and temperatures will remain around 50 degrees, especially in southern Iraq.

According to the the Meteorological Authority Iraq report for Wednesday, the central governorates, Najaf, Messan, Dhi Qar, Mthena, and Basra will have temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius.

Mahmoud Abdul-Latif pointed out that there is no horizon for a drop in temperatures until next week, but a significant change is expected to occur after that week and temperatures will begin to drop.
