Ahmad al-Halali of Roodao: 13 people arrested in connection with riots and assaults witnessed by Syri Kanhe

Hasakah Deputy Governor Ahmed Al-Halali announced the arrest of 13 people in the wake of the recent riots and attacks in the city of Sri Kanhe, stressing that the prosecution of the rest of those involved is still ongoing.

In an interview with the Rudao media network, Al-Hali said that groups "outlawed the individual and unorganized return of some residents to the city to create chaos and assault on citizens and government institutions".

He explained that the security services directly intervened to contain the situation, and increased its spread in areas where there was unrest, noting that the situation is currently "stable and calm". He stressed that the detainees will be brought to justice to hold accountable those who prove their responsibility for the violation of public security.

The deputy governor of Hasakah, Ahmed Al-Halali, stressed that the program for returning displaced people to the Sri Kany (Ras al-Ain) area is ongoing and will not stop and pointed out that the success of the first phase of the plan, which saw more than 400 families return safely to their villages, is "practical evidence" of the feasibility of an organized return.
